In the episode, a look back discloses that fan-favorite personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was destined for Hell, he established communication with the afterlife beforehand to obtain a powerful role there. Rosie, the charismatic leader the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Condemned Soul in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This raises the question: In what way is this character powerful enough to raise Alastor above all other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that encompasses a great deal, leading into the third season,” the creator states. “Obviously that is an excellent question: How is she that powerful? The solution might be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I am thrilled for people to witness it.”

It is uncertain how long the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The production companies have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner often remarks that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she says holding off on specific information is an important part of keeping the second season's focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have mysteries, is giving the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and allowing that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in Season 3

The creator promises that the upcoming season will address the queries fans have been posing, such as why Rosie ordered Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which weakened his power in the infernal realm.

“The whole seven years, and the deals these individuals are doing, and all that — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

In the meantime, the origin story episode offers another glimpse into what the core cast of Sinner Demons appeared as as mortals, the second after seeing Sir Pentious’ Victorian-era human form in episode 2. She says that significant consideration was put into the visual creation of these forms.

“The mortal forms of these personas carry great significance,” she says. “They range from looking really different from their infernal version to looking very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate internally between choosing a design that represents the character, versus going with something that's very time-period accurate. We opted for making something that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the biggest debate over Pentious’ human design was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one really had long hair of that style in that historical period.’ But at the same time, we believe the outline is so important, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we create the mortal forms of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and figure out. I am looking forward for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
