Patriots Equal Best Winning Streak From Tom Brady Years with Win Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five touchdowns in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their top unbeaten stretch since the Brady era as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eight-game winning streak for the first time since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the Patriots lead at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had gone in front at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's initial series
But the New England fought back in the second period as the rookie scored two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He desires to be excellent."
Justin Fields found John Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side sealed the victory
